Frequently Asked Questions.

Question you may have about axe throwing…

I’m booking last minute, is it best to call ahead? Do I have any options to come in at this point? Help!2021-06-28T20:37:21-04:00

Although we recommend booking in advance, most times we do have the availability to get you in at less than 48-hours notice. You can navigate this website and check the booking page for each location to see if there is availability or feel free to contact us. Our location information is listed below.

What if my estimate is in between two group sizes? Which size should I book?2021-06-28T20:36:58-04:00

We always recommend booking the bigger size. It does require a slightly larger deposit, but it is much easier for us to decrease the booking size as you get closer to the date than it is to increase it as things start to fill up. Some days sell out early and then we have no option to increase your size and you’ll have to cap your group at less than you may have wanted to bring.

What if I think I may go over my group booking size?2021-06-28T20:36:31-04:00

If you’ve already booked but now another friend or neighbor (or your friend’s neighbor!) want to join in as well (and who wouldn’t?), and you think you’re going to go over the range you booked, please contact the location you booked at ASAP (contact details are on your invoice!) and we can check availability to increase your reservation size. Please give us as much notice as possible though because we tend to sell out quickly and, if that happens, you’ll just have to tell your friend’s neighbor “no” and cap your reservation. Nobody wants that to happen!

What is Indoor Competitive Axe Throwing?2021-06-28T20:32:37-04:00

Axe throwing as an indoor competitive sport that has taken off in Canada over the past decade. And has now spilled own into the US and has become a nationwide phenomenon. Similar to darts, axe throwing is an individual sport played with and against other members of a group. Individuals throw 1.5 lb. hatchets at wooden targets marked with a bullseye and score points based on where on the target they stick the axe.

How does the axe throwing experience work?2021-06-28T20:33:22-04:00

Group events at Splitting Edge last 1 or 2 hours and should be booked in advance. All experiences start with the signing of our waiver followed by safety instruction. Then 1-on-1 throwing practice, led by our trained coaches in an axe throwing lane. Once you’ve learned to properly throw the axe and you being to sharpen your your skills, you instructor will institute a series of competitive games and fun axe throwing activities. Our coaches will take care of all scoring and game instruction so you may relax and enjoy the sport. At the end of every round robin tournament, one member of the group is the winner. We invite groups of 2 or more but game are best played with groups of at least 4 or more.

Is it safe?2021-06-28T20:34:00-04:00

Safety is our number one priority. The format we use and the construction of the throwing lanes are all focused around the safety of the participants. Each competitor throws in his/her own individual lane and competes side-by-side with another competitor. For each pair of throwing competitors, we have an event coordinator / throwing instructor who is responsible for keeping score as well as ensuring safety protocols are adhered to and all tournaments are fully supervised. Only the two active competitors throwing at that time are allowed within the throwing area, all other competitors are required to wait in the safety zone behind the lanes.

Do I need to book or can I just come in?2021-06-28T20:35:21-04:00

It is highly recommended that you book ahead for group events at your preferred location. We do offer walk-in throwing sessions daily but those are not guaranteed as those who booked ahead receive prioritization. Please check our bookings pages for availability. We are available for group bookings 6 days a week (Tuesday thru Sunday) currently and also offer corporate event packages.

What if more people want to come after I already booked my reservation?2021-06-28T20:35:58-04:00

The group size range that you booked tells us how many throwing lanes and coaches your group needs. As long as your number of participants stays within your group range, you’re good to go. If your group size expands larger than 10, please call us as soon as possible to be certain we can accomodate you during your time slot.
